The principle is simple. Water, collected by the funnel, is routed to the measuring chamber. A solid state level sensor, connected to an electronic circuit, outputs a contact closure for every 0.2 mm. When 1.0 mm of water is collected, it is siphoned out on to the ground. This process repeats indefinitely.

The siphoning action takes approximately 1 second so no rain is lost during this process and since the electronics omit false readings, the RGS-100 is very precise.

The RGS-100 comes ready for installation in the field. No assembly or calibration is necessary. It need only be mounted, levelled and attached to a digital input on any data logger.
