Guide-Light
Guide-Light Design Guide-Light are an innovation that will improve driver awareness of Highway Concrete Type Barriers by providing greater night time refletive illumination. This is accomplished economically by using a large area of high intensity prismatic reflective sheeting adhered to a specially fabricated assembly that conforms to the concrete barrier. Sun-Lab's patented Safety Guide-Light, referred to as a "Living Dilineator," is designed with a unique innovation called a folding hinge. When the Guide-Light reflective area is struck by an object, it will fold up to 90 degrees in either direction and return to its natural vertical position within several seconds. This greatly reduce seconds. This greatly reduces delineator damage from snow plows, vehicules and vadalism as comparated to other type of rigid delineator that are commonly used and often need replaced. Currently, there are two types of GUide-Light designs: Type TM and Type SM. The Type TM is designed to mount on the top of the barrier and is available in various sizes to accommodate the different barrier widths. The Type SM is designed to attach to the side of the barrier. Both types of delineartors have large prismatic reflective areas that are three times greater than most rigid delineators. Each type uses the "Folding Hinge" design. Delineation Delineation of a concrete median barrier is difficult when they are adjacent to the travel lanes. Side mounted delineators are frequently by vandal action since they are mounted low and protrude from the barrier. Side mounted delineators exhibit the highest level of retro-refletivity when they are located within the low beam area of a vehicule's headlight. Low profile top mounted delineators are often covered with snow in the northern climate. Both types are frequently not visible for any great distance on left hand curves and overs vertical curves. The Safety Guide-Light takes advantage of the folding hinge design since it is less subject to damage, thereby allowing a substantial increase in the reflective area of the delineator. Currently manufactured side moounted types are rigid and provide less than 10 square inches of reflective area; whereas, the standard Type SM Guide-Light has 30 square inches of retro-reflectivity since the design is less subject to damage. Sun-Lab's top mounted Type TM Guide-Light has a vertical height of 10 inches and is available in several widths that provide a reflective area of 40 to 60 square inches. Installation Safety Guide-Lights come with a special adhesive backing for fast and easy installation on clean and properly prepared barriers. Reflectivity There are various types and designs of reflective sheeting, used mostly on highway signin and delineators, that can be seen in darkness by the retro-reflection of a vehicule's headlights. Some sheeting, by virtue of the design goal, achieves high brigtness by using variations of prismatic corner/cube reflective designs. Other types of reflective sheeting are composed of encapsulated high refractivity glass beads. There are advantages to both types. The most desirable type of reflective material is one that provides excellent wide entrance angularity performance and a high degree of brightness at both long and short range. Sun-Lab uses prismatic corner/cube reflective sheeting on the Safety Guide-Light delineators. For snow-belt areas using anti-skid material such as sand or cinders, a high intensity abrasion resistant sheeting is available. Fabrication The Type TM ans SM molded using thermoplastic Polypro/Santoprenematerial. This combination offers good mechanical properties under a wide range of operating temperatures. Highly durable, it is resistant to fatigue, ozone, ultraviolet, acids, alkalies, water and most oils and lubricants. The product lends itself to the harsh highway environment. |
