The Lmax is a microplate luminometer with Windows PC- or Macintosh-based control and data handling software designed for the measurement of chemi- and bio-luminesence. Applications include assays for single and dual luciferase reporter genes, ATP, dsDNA, aequorin-Ca++, and luminescence-based ELISA. The system combines the sensitivity, dynamic range, and sample throughput of a dedicated 96/384-well microplate luminometer with the powerful and easy to use SOFTmax® PRO for Lmax software. |

|
Ultra-fast photon counting technology for reduced noise and elimination of the need to calibrate throughout the linear range. |
|
Jet injector technology provides virtually instantaneous mixing and improved flash kinetic data. |
|
SOFTmax PRO for Lmax software controls the instrument, data collection, and data reduction. With the Lmax luminometer there is no need to export to spreadsheet programs. |
Improved Signal-to-Noise Ratio
Ultra-fast photon counting technology amplifies the PMT signal with a fast pulse amplifier. Only pulses with amplitudes greater than a specified low level threshold are counted. This reduces the noise contributed from small pulses and eliminates the need for calibration throughout the linear range.
Jet Injectors for Flash-Type Reactions
Jet injector technology provides virtually instantaneous mixing. This eliminates the need for plate shaking and the associated losses of data due to slow mixing. All areas within the injectors are made of Teflon® and therefore very resistant to harsh chemicals. The direction of flow through the injectors can be reversed, allowing one to easily recover expensive reagents in the dead volume of the fluidics.
Reduced Well-to-Well Variability
To prevent temperature gradient build-up and condensation in the sample chamber, the Lmax includes dual zone heating with one heating element in direct contact with the microplate and the other heating element located in the counting chamber.
Comprehensive Software for Ease of Use
Instrument control, data collection, and data reduction are managed through SOFTmax PRO for Lmax software eliminating the need to export data to spreadsheet programs. Instrument control settings include endpoint, dual read, and kinetic modes. The Template editor is used to create a map defining each well of the microplate (see Figure 1A). The Group settings dialog box allows one to automatically fill in the template with sample designations such as serial dilutions of unknowns or the concentrations of standards (see Figure 1B). Data can be reduced using built-in formulas or you can define custom formulas. Results are displayed in each well of the microplate (see Figure 1C). Graphs are easily plotted and labeled using the graphing function (see Figure 2).
