Detection of Listeria
Monocytogenes
- FAST - 24 hours total test time
- ENRICHMENT FREE - No time-consuming, biohazard-generating enrichment
needed
- SENSITIVE - Equal to cultural methods, but in only 24 hours
- ECONOMICAL - Inexpensive and easy to use
- QUANTITATIVE - Detect Listeria as CFU/g
Microbiological contamination is a serious problem facing the food
industry today, and Listeria monocytogenes is one of the most
hazardous microbes. From 1986-1989, FDA Class I recalls for
Listeria affected 52,000 pounds of seafood, 55 million
sandwiches, 12,000 pounds of meat, and over 860 million pounds of
cheese.
ListerTest helps detect and control Listeria by
making testing of foods and the processing environment easy and rapid.
ListerTest detects injured Listeria. It also eliminates
enrichment, which is not only time consuming, but can produce false
negatives if the Listeria are killed by harsh selective agents.
And, ListerTest won't produce false positives either -
eliminating the need and cost of confirmation. In our test,
Listeria are bound to antibodies on microscopic magnetic beads.
These beads are then isolated from the rest of the food or environmental
sample. Listeria are confirmed immunologically and, if desired,
caracterized biochemically. All in about 24 hours.
Best of all, because the rest is simple, it can be run in house. No
other Listeria test is this fast, simple or sensitive.
Here's how simple ListerTest
is:
- Add ListerTest Beads to a prepared sample to capture live
Listeria
- Spread beads on a plate
- After 22 hours, examine plate for colonies:
If no colonies
appear, the result is negative and the test is done If colonies
appear, lift them onto a membrane, then quantitate Listeria
immunologically and, if desired, caracterize biochemically.

*Note: membranes are only needed for analysis of positive samples.
Since the majority of samples are usually negative, Geneq sells some test
kits with fewer membranes than tests, and passes the savings on to the
customer. |
