Narrowband Scientific UV
Radiometer (Global Radiation) CUVB1 / CUVA1
For analysing related atmospheric conditions it became apparent that it is impossible to rely on broadband measurements. To solve this problem CUVB1 and CUVA1 were designed with a sensitivity in a very narrow spectral band. For CUVB1 the central wavelength was chosen at 306nm. This wavelength represents an optimum of the multiplication of the human skin (erythema/skin-cancer-action) spectrum and the solar spectrum. The CUVA1 central wavelength of 368 nm was chosen because this particular wavelength is also used in the WMO air pollution network. In order to obtain the required accuracy the UV meters are temperature stabilized at 40°C using a heating element. Two voltage outputs are available : the sensor signal (representing UV radiation) and the sensor temperature (for quality control of the measuremnet). Night-time offset of the sensor signal needs to be deducted from day-time values. The dimensions of the sensors are equal to those of standard Kipp & Zonen pyranometers. Delivery includes the sensor which is connected to a temperature stabilization unit CUVT1. CUVB1 and CUVA1 are delivered with preliminary calibration.
