ANATOC
Total Organic Analyser
The new SGE ANATOC Total Organic Analyser is a unique analyser for the rapid determination of organic carbon in water. The instrument is small and self-contained, utilising novel photocatalytic oxidation technology to decompose even the most intractable organic compounds in an aquenous sample.

It provides reliable analysis at negligible cost per sample without the use of hazardous peroxidisulfate and without clumsy and expensive compressed gases.

Principles of ANATOC operation

Photocatalytic oxidation decomposes organic compouds in the aqueous medium to give carbon dioxide, water and the acid, base or salt of any other organically bound elements. The resulting CO2 gas is accurately determined via measurement of conductivity.

The oxidation is carried out by illumination of the sample at room temperature with near-UV light (300-400nm) in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst is titanium dioxide present as a dilute suspension in water.

Features of the ANATOC :

  • Small, lightweight and self contained
  • Does not require any external gas supply
  • Does not generate Ozone
  • Oxidising reagents not required
  • Rapid sample turnaround, typically 6 minutes
  • Microprocessor control, requires minimal operator involvement
  • Carbon content displayed directly in ppm
  • Negligible cost per analysis
  • Easy self maintenance using commonly available components
  • Large analytical range, 0.05 to 10,000 ppm (µgC/ml)
