General information

The A2101 measuures water activity within the range of 0.01 to 1.00Aw with an accuracy of 0.015 Aw or better, and a repeatability of 0.003 Aw. The A2101 includes the following:

• AwQuick micro-processor based indicator
• AwVC ventilated probe
• Two sample holders (shallow and deep)
• One pack each of large and small disposable sample cups (100 cups per pack)
• Four boxes of certified humidity standards (5, 10, 35 and 80%RH/5 vials per box).

To measure, place a disposable cup with a sample of the product inside the sample holder and put the AwVC ventilated probe on top of the sample holder. Upon pressing the ENTER key, the AwQuick indicator automatically begins monitoring the humidity data provided by the probe. A sound buzzer and an LED indicates when the measurement is completed. To measure the next sample, put a new cup in the sample holder and press the ENTER key. It's just that simple!

The disposable cups supplied with the A2101 eliminates the requirement for cleaning the sample holder in between measurements. The PS14 cup (14mm/0.55" deep) is for small samples: liquids, pastes, powders or granules. For measurement of bulk product: nuts, candies, tablets, etc., use the larger PS40 cup (40mm/1.57" deep).

Typically, the A2101 provides accurate measurements in just 4 to 6 minutes per sample. Products that are difficult to measure with other instruments (multi-component products, high fat content products, etc.) are no longer a problem: the AwQuick indicator can be automatically optimized. Up to 20 such optimizations can be kept in the non volatile memory. For research purposes, the AwQuick doubles as a sophisticated Water Activity datalogger with automatic equilibrium detection. The recorded data is transferred to a PC, using Microsoft's Windows hyperterminal or any other standard comminication software.

The A2101 is easy to maintain. The probe and sample holders are separate from the indicator so that cleaning can be done without disassembling the unit. The probe sensors are protected with a replaceable dust filter. Reliable field calibration of probe can be performed with the Rotronic certified humidity standards.
