The PC5L is an exceptionally rugged hand-held computer complete with MS-DOS 5.0. The PC5L, developed to operate in extremely harsh environments, is waterproof, dustproof, and temperature tolerant. It can operate at -40°C and will withstand a 6-foot drop.

The PC5L now features new enhancements including a high-speed option, a super-contrast display, and multi-font capability.

The PC5L has the true 16-bit AT bus throughout with PC/AT performance. The PC5L comes standard with 2 megabytes of high-speed RAM and has up to 32 megabytes of memory address space. The PC5L supports industry standard PCMCIA cards, add-on RAM Disks, and Flash EEPROM applications modules. The high speed option for PC5L offers users superior performance. The high speed PC5L is benchmark, using the industry standard BYTE DOS Benchmark Ver. 2.1, at 1.65 times the CPU index of a 286/AT, with a 286/AT CPU index of 1.0. The standard PC5L has a comparative CPU index of 1.18.

The 128 x 200 pixel CGA-compatible LCD acts as a virtual window inside a 25 x 80 screen. The new film-type LCD, which appears "black on white", provides exceptional clarity and visibility. The LCD is backlit for use in low light conditions with system software-controlled contrast. The standard 16 line x 25 character display is further enhanced by the PC5FONT "multi-font" driver. PC5FONT enables users to incorporate upto 15 different fonts into an applications. PC5FONT can also be used to modify the display appearence of existing applications.

The PC5L supports a variety of external devices through the two 8250-compatible RS-232ports. The PC5L can be used with bar code readers, electronic scales, printers, etc... An optional RS-422/485 port is also available.

The PC5L measures 9.43" x 4.06" x 1.97" and weighs only 28 onces including batteries. The use of Microsoft Corp. Advancement Power Management (APM) scheme enables the PC5L to run 2-3 days in typical applications on a single NiCad battery charge.
